Homemade Apple Butter Spread

The tart and sweet flavors of perfectly ripened apples will warm you up with every bite of this Homemade Apple Butter Spread that brings hints of cinnamon spice. Enjoy this thick slow-cooked preserve with sourdough toast (or bread of your choice), as a topping for ice cream, homemade biscuits, scones, waffles, pancakes, French toast, or any sweet treat of you like!

Ingredients
  • 8 cups unsweetened applesauce (approx. 3 ½ lb. cooked apples)
  • 3 - 3 ½ cups brown sugar
  • ½ cup apple cider vinegar or apple cider
  • 1 Tbsp. ground cinnamon
Instructions
  1. Mix all the ingredients and pour it into a roaster or baking dish.
  2. Bake, uncovered, at 350° for 3 hours, stirring occasionally. Apple mixture will thicken and brown while baking.
  3. Remove from oven, scoop into jars ,and cold pack for 15 - 20 minutes. Or, cool completely before putting into airtight containers or jars (leave some headspace) and freeze.
  4. Allow frozen apple butter to thaw in the refrigerator overnight. Keep refrigerated for up to a couple of weeks and enjoy!
